Dihexa is a synthetic peptide studied in preclinical neuroscience. It is often described as an angiotensin IV analog or derivative. The compound also appears under research codes such as PNB-0408 and N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide. It is not an approved drug, and it is not a conventional vitamin or nutrient. In many jurisdictions, material sold as dihexa is handled as a research chemical rather than a medicine or supplement. This classification affects how the material is labeled and distributed.
Chemically, dihexa is a short peptide-like molecule with nonstandard components. Its structure includes tyrosine and isoleucine residues linked to a hexanoic acid group and an aminohexanoic amide segment. This design distinguishes it from endogenous angiotensin IV, though the two are discussed together because of shared origins. Published summaries classify it as a small synthetic peptide with lipophilic features that may influence how it crosses biological barriers in experimental systems. Exact conformational details depend on the specific salt or free base form.
The compound has been examined in animal models for effects on learning, memory, and synaptic connectivity. Some reports describe increased dendritic spine density and improved performance on certain behavioral tasks after administration in rodents. These findings are often cited in discussions of nootropic research peptides, but replication across independent laboratories remains limited. The absence of published phase 1 or phase 2 clinical trial data makes it difficult to assess safety, effective routes, or long-term outcomes in humans. Consequently, claims about cognitive benefits in people remain speculative.
Dihexa is not approved as a medicine in major regulatory jurisdictions. It is commonly sold as a research chemical for laboratory use, though such products may not be standardized or independently verified. Scientific literature on dihexa includes in vitro assays, rodent studies, and reviews that discuss its proposed mechanism. The distinction between peer-reviewed findings and commercial promotion is important when evaluating available information. Open questions include its precise binding interactions, pharmacokinetics, and whether animal results translate to human biology.

Dihexa is a synthetic compound studied in laboratory and animal models for effects on synaptic connectivity and cognitive performance. It is often described as a peptide analog because its structure incorporates amino acid residues linked to a hexanoic acid group. The molecule is not a naturally occurring human hormone or neurotransmitter. Its name appears in research literature and online discussions, but it has not been approved as a medicine by major regulatory agencies. Most information comes from preclinical experiments rather than controlled human trials.
The compound originated from work on angiotensin IV, a peptide fragment of the renin-angiotensin system. Researchers modified angiotensin IV-related structures to produce molecules with altered stability and activity. Dihexa emerged from that effort and was reported to promote dendritic spine growth in cultured neurons. Some studies link its effects to hepatocyte growth factor signaling and the c-Met receptor, while other work points to insulin-regulated aminopeptidase. The precise primary target remains a subject of investigation, and findings may depend on cell type, assay conditions, and species.
In animal research, dihexa has been administered through several routes, and reports describe improved performance on spatial learning and memory tasks in rodents. These results are frequently cited in discussions of nootropic compounds. However, species differences, small sample sizes, and varied testing protocols limit how far the findings can be generalized. No large randomized controlled trials in humans have established efficacy or long-term safety. Claims about human cognitive enhancement therefore remain speculative, and the compound is best described as an experimental laboratory substance rather than a proven therapeutic or supplement.
The full name often given is N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide. This name indicates a chain containing tyrosine, isoleucine, and a six-carbon amino acid derivative. Databases list a CAS Registry Number and a molecular formula for the compound. The peptide is small compared with proteins, and its structure allows it to be studied in cell cultures and animal models. Exact identity depends on the supplier's synthesis and purification process. Minor impurities can remain after synthesis.
Chemically, dihexa belongs to a broader group of angiotensin IV analogs. Researchers have modified the natural peptide to alter stability, binding, or distribution. Such changes can affect how the molecule behaves in experiments. The parent peptide angiotensin IV is involved in various physiological processes, but the modified analog is not identical to it. Public summaries sometimes blur the distinction between the natural fragment and the synthetic research compound. This distinction matters when interpreting study results.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptide that has been examined in laboratory and animal research. Its design is based on angiotensin IV, a naturally occurring peptide fragment produced in the body. The short name dihexa appears in scientific papers and online discussions, while the full chemical name describes a modified peptide chain. It is not a vitamin, mineral, or plant-derived compound. Suppliers typically present it as a research chemical rather than an approved medicine.

The heavy isotope plutonium-244 has a half-life long enough that extreme trace quantities should have survived primordially (from the Earth's formation) to the present, but so far experiments have not yet been sensitive enough to detect it. Both plutonium-239 and plutonium-241 are fissile, meaning they can sustain a nuclear chain reaction, leading to applications in nuclear weapons and nuclear reactors. Plutonium-240 has a high rate of spontaneous fission, raising the neutron flux of any sample containing it. The presence of plutonium-240 limits a plutonium sample's usability for weapons or its quality as reactor fuel, and the percentage of plutonium-240 determines its grade (weapons-grade, fuel-grade, or reactor-grade). Plutonium-238 has a half-life of 87.7 years and emits alpha particles. It is a heat source in radioisotope thermoelectric generators, which are used to power some spacecraft. Plutonium isotopes are expensive and inconvenient to separate, so particular isotopes are usually manufactured in specialized reactors. Producing plutonium in useful quantities for the first time was a major part of the Manhattan Project during World War II that developed the first atomic bombs. The Fat Man bombs used in the Trinity nuclear test in July 1945, and in the bombing of Nagasaki in August 1945, had plutonium cores. Human radiation experiments studying plutonium were conducted without informed consent, and several criticality accidents, some lethal, occurred after the war.

=== VfB Leipzig (1893–1946) === The club was formed as VfB Leipzig on 13 May 1896, out of the football department of the gymnastics club Allgemeine Turnverein 1845 Leipzig. However, the club laid claim to an earlier date of origin by referring back to a club that was merged with VfB Leipzig in 1898, the SC Sportbrüder Leipzig, which was one of four football clubs formed in Leipzig in 1893. Following the merger with SC Sportbrüder Leipzig, the club competed under the name VfB Sportbrüder 1893 Leipzig. VfB Sportbrüder 1893 Leipzig was one of the original 86 teams that came together in the city on 28 January 1900 to form the German Football Association (DFB). On 2 May 1900, the Sportbrüder 1893 part of the name was dropped, and the team became again known as VfB Leipzig.

Electronegativity is a chemical property that describes the tendency of an atom or a functional group to attract electrons (or electron density) towards itself. If the bond between sodium and chlorine in sodium chloride were covalent, the pair of shared electrons would be attracted to the chlorine because the effective nuclear charge on the outer electrons is +7 in chlorine but is only +1 in sodium. The electron pair is attracted so close to the chlorine atom that they are practically transferred to the chlorine atom (an ionic bond). However, if the sodium atom was replaced by a lithium atom, the electrons will not be attracted as close to the chlorine atom as before because the lithium atom is smaller, making the electron pair more strongly attracted to the closer effective nuclear charge from lithium. Hence, the larger alkali metal atoms (further down the group) will be less electronegative as the bonding pair is less strongly attracted towards them. As mentioned previously, francium is expected to be an exception. Because of the higher electronegativity of lithium, some of its compounds have a more covalent character. For example, lithium iodide (LiI) will dissolve in organic solvents, a property of most covalent compounds. Lithium fluoride (LiF) is the only alkali halide that is not soluble in water, and lithium hydroxide (LiOH) is the only alkali metal hydroxide that is not deliquescent.
It was once widely promoted that excessive absinthe drinking caused effects that were discernible from those associated with alcoholism, a belief that led to the coining of the term absinthism. One of the first vilifications of absinthe followed an 1864 experiment in which Magnan simultaneously exposed one guinea pig to large doses of pure wormwood vapour, and another to alcohol vapours. The guinea pig exposed to wormwood vapour experienced convulsive seizures, while the animal exposed to alcohol did not. Magnan would later blame the naturally occurring (in wormwood) chemical thujone for these effects. Thujone, once widely believed to be an active chemical in absinthe, is a GABA antagonist, and while it can produce muscle spasms in large doses, there is no direct evidence to suggest it causes hallucinations. Past reports estimated thujone concentrations in absinthe as being up to 260 mg/kg. More recently, published scientific analyses of samples of various original absinthes have disproved previous estimates, and demonstrated that only a trace of the thujone present in wormwood actually makes it into a properly distilled absinthe when historical methods and materials are employed to create the spirit. As such, most traditionally crafted absinthes, both vintage and modern, fall within the current EU standards. Tests conducted on mice to study toxicity showed an oral LD50 of about 45 mg thujone per kg of body weight, which represents far more absinthe than could be realistically consumed.

== Clinical significance == Mutations in the POMC gene have been associated with early-onset obesity, adrenal insufficiency, and red hair pigmentation. In cases of primary adrenal insufficiency, decreased cortisol production leads to compensatory overproduction of pituitary ACTH through feedback mechanisms. Because ACTH is co-produced with α-MSH and γ-MSH from POMC, this overproduction can result in hyperpigmentation. A specific genetic polymorphism in the POMC gene is associated with elevated fasting insulin levels, but only in obese individuals. The melanocortin signaling pathway may influence glucose metabolism in the context of obesity, indicating a possible gene–environment interaction. Thus, POMC variants may contribute to the development of polygenic obesity and help explain the connection between obesity and type 2 diabetes. Increased circulating levels of POMC have also been observed in patients with sepsis. While the clinical implications of this finding are still under investigation, animal studies have shown that infusion of hydrocortisone in septic mice suppresses ACTH (a downstream product of POMC) without reducing POMC levels themselves.
The prisoners had been transferred from the city of São Paulo to the Piranhão as punishment for bad behavior. The game famously ended in widespread fights and chaos, which led to the brutal killing and decapitation of both the deputy director and a prisoner with special privileges, with the head of the latter being put on a stake. The group has the slogan "Peace, Justice and Freedom", and makes use of the Chinese taijitu (the yin and yang symbol) as their emblem, claiming that it represents a "way to balance good and evil with wisdom". In February 2001, Idemir "Sombra" Carlos Ambrósio became the most prominent leader of the organization when he coordinated, by cell phone, simultaneous rebellions in 29 São Paulo state prisons, in which 16 prisoners were killed. "Sombra", also referred to as "father", was beaten to death in the Piranhão five months later by five PCC members in an internal struggle for the general command of the group. The PCC was initially led by César "Césinha" Augusto Roris da Silva and José "Geleião" Márcio Felício, who were responsible for a short-lived alliance with the Comando Vermelho (CV). At the time, the group adopted CV's far-left beliefs and began advocating for revolution and the destruction of Brazil's capitalist system. Geleião and Cesinha, from the Bangu Penitentiary where they were held, went on to coordinate violent attacks against public buildings.
== Applications == Molecular design has been an important element of many disciplines in academia, including bioengineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering and chemistry. However, one of the ongoing challenges is in bringing together the critical mass of manpower amongst disciplines to span the realm from design theory to materials production, and from device design to product development. Thus, while the concept of rational engineering of technology from the bottom-up is not new, it is still far from being widely translated into R&D efforts. Molecular engineering is used in many industries. Some applications of technologies where molecular engineering plays a critical role:
As a result, bred-back breeds are at best vague look-alikes of extinct wildtypes, as Heck cattle are of the aurochs. Purebred wild species evolved to a specific ecology can be threatened with extinction through the process of genetic pollution, the uncontrolled hybridization, introgression genetic swamping which leads to homogenization or out-competition from the heterosic hybrid species. When new populations are imported or selectively bred by people, or when habitat modification brings previously isolated species into contact, extinction in some species, especially rare varieties, is possible. Interbreeding can swamp the rarer gene pool and create hybrids, depleting the purebred gene pool. For example, the endangered wild water buffalo is most threatened with extinction by genetic pollution from the domestic water buffalo. Such extinctions are not always apparent from a morphological standpoint. Some degree of gene flow is a normal evolutionary process, nevertheless, hybridization threatens the existence of rare species.
